PLAN A VISIT

Whether you’re new to church, have been a Christian for many years or are looking for a fresh start, you’re most welcome at Gerringong Uniting Church.

WHAT TO EXPECT at the 9AM SERVICE

  • As the service starts at 9am, arriving around 8.50am gives you time for someone in the welcome team to say hello (there’s plenty of off-road parking on the sealed or grassed areas in the church grounds).

  • There is ample parking on site and on Fern Street. Enter from Fern street, drive up the driveway and park on the grass either to the left or right of the driveway. If it is busy, you can park in two rows on the left side. The front row can drive across the grass to exit if needed.

  • There is no dress code - just come as you are and wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.

  • This is our more traditional service with featuring songs up written up until the end of the 20th century.  When you arrive, there’ll be some background music being playing on the organ and, when the service starts, a leader will welcome everyone with a song to follow. Words for songs are projected onto a screen and you can sing along or just listen however you feel most comfortable. Then there’ll be a prayer, a few news items about things that are going on in the life of the church, another song, prayer, a Bible reading and then the Minister, or another leader, will preach on that reading.  After the sermon we sing again.

  • There are two Accessible car spaces close to the entrance and wheelchair access to the stone church, the hall and the office.

If someone is driving you, then they can also pull up close to the entrance, assist you, and then go and park too.

If you have a wheelchair or walker and would like to come to church, enter via the second left side doorway of the church. There are ushers to help you to a seat near the ramp.

  • 10.15pm at the latest. Then, we’d love to join us in the hall for morning tea.

  • If you feel uncomfortable you can leave at any time!

  • Yes. Children are very welcome and activities (colouring, puzzles etc) are provided for them to do during the service.

  • Yes. The church is made up of people who know they need Jesus's saving grace in their lives. There are all kinds of people at church each with their own story who are part of the family at Gerringong Uniting.

  • You won't be asked to do anything, or be embarrassed or asked for money. We do take an offering - but its for people committed to the church family, not visitors. However you will be warmly welcomed, encouraged in your walk with God - and we hope you would want to come again!

  • Walking into a new service can be daunting. The service starts at 5.30pm. Arriving at 5.20pm gives you time for someone in the welcome team to say hello (there’s plenty of off-road parking on the sealed or grassed areas in the church grounds). Newcomers (and introverts!) sometimes like to sneak in a little late and that’s ok too!

  • Just come as you are and wear whatever you feel most comfortable in – it’s casual. Some of our crew are keen surfers and have been known to come in right after a surf. It’s all good!

  • One of the leaders will get things going and the band will lead a time of worship. Words for songs are projected onto a screen and you can stand up or sit down when you like. There’s a segment especially for the children after which kids are welcome to go out to Kids Church.  In church, there are a few news items about things that are going on in the life of the church and then the Minister or one of the leaders will preach from the Bible – with the preaching style being less formal than at the morning service. The aim of the sermon is to understand the heart of The Father, be filled with the Holy Spirit and live like Jesus extending God's Kingdom. After the message, there’s another song and prayer.

  • 6.45pm at the latest.  You are most welcome to join us for a shared light meal afterwards.

  • We are a friendly bunch and enjoy a meal together after the service in the hall. You don’t need to bring anything. Those that enjoy it (and have the gift of cooking for a crowd) take turns at cooking. Some weeks it’s pasta, other weeks, burgers or soup - its always hearty and yummy and casual. The best thing is the great conversations. Most weeks we do our best to provide a gluten-free option, though we can’t completely guarantee cross-contamination for coeliacs.

  • Yes, you can leave at any time!

  • No. There are people of all ages who attend this service.  We make a big effort to welcome, be gracious and kind to everyone... because that is the kind of love that God has shown us.
