WHO WE ARE
Gerringong Uniting Church is a bible-based community of Jesus followers.
Our mission is: living the love of Jesus in our community.
Which means that we follow both the teachings of Jesus and the example of Jesus to live those teachings with Grace and love for everyone we meet. We highly value worship and bible study as well as caring for people and the community. We also highly value relationships, so we are keen to help people feel loved and welcomed into the family of faith.
So, whether you’re curious about the Bible and the Christian faith, visiting from another church, passing through town, or invited along by a friend, you are more than welcome. Any Sunday that you are with us, you’ll hear about Jesus, about what God did so that we could know him, and you’ll have an opportunity to receive and to live out Jesus love.
To build a solid foundation of prayer
We believe that “Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.” (Psalm 127:1).
Prayer is the process by which we invite God to build our church and our lives. To this commitment we have weekly and monthly prayer groups including prayer for renewal.
2. To build a culture of discipleship
Jesus expressed the prime purpose of the church to; 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20).
We seek to live this out by helping people grow in their discipleship through bible study groups, children’s groups, adolescent groups and living out their discipleship through sharing the faith and serving the community both locally and overseas.
3. To respond to the needs of our congregation and community
John the evangelist wrote, But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but indeed and in truth. (1 John 3:17-18 ESV)
In obedience to this we seek to care for our people, care for our community through teaching scripture, supporting young parents through our “Kids Play, group, partnering with another church to bring food to those in need and heavily supporting a ministry in India with a school, food program, vocational program, hospital and a women’s refuge.
4. To create engaging worship services that encourage new and regular attendees to become empowered in their walk with Jesus.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, (Hebrews 12:28)
As human beings we do not discover our true place in the scheme of things until we meet with our God in worship. In worship we open our lives to the presence and power of God which provides us with strength and purpose for living.
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. (Hebrews 13:15)
